The First Step To Stop Smoking

Cigarette smoking is always unsafe. It has been observed that those people who smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day are likely to take twice as many days off work annually than non-smokers. Forty percent of heavy smokers who are now aged 35 are likely to die before reaching their retiring age compared with only 18 percent for those who do not smoke at all. In America alone, smoking causes about 400,000 deaths annually.
Smoking poses countless dangers to a person's health, starting with the mouth and throat. The major risk of smoking is cancer. Tobacco smoke can also cause tooth decay and gum disease and can make the smoker's teeth yellow and unpleasing to the sight. As smoke passes through the esophagus, the tar that comes with it can trigger cancer. The smoke that reaches the bronchi contains hydrogen cyanide and other chemicals, which attack the bronchial lining causing inflammation thus increasing a person's susceptibility to bronchitis. The nicotine that is carried in the blood circulation causes a rise in blood pressure. Carbon monoxide results in the development of cholesterol deposits in the arterial walls that can cause stroke and heart attack. Smoking can cause ulcers in the intestines and can also cause diarrhea. Smoking can also affect the brain. Headaches are common to smokers and the lack of oxygen in the brain and narrowing of the blood vessels can lead to stroke. The most common danger we know about smoking is the adverse effect it has in the lungs. Lung cancer is 10 times more likely to develop in heavy smokers than non-smokers. Nicotine in cigarette smoke can also affect the heart. It makes the heart beat faster and work harder. Nicotine also makes the blood clot more easily, increasing a smoker's risk to heart attacks.
Even with all the imminent dangers that come with smoking, many heavy smokers still refuse to quit. Are all these health reasons not compelling enough for you to quit smoking?
In order to stop smoking you have to take the first step. Finding out why you smoke is a good first step to quitting. The following are statements based on the research conducted by the US Public Health Service. You have to give yourself a score in order to assess how intense your reasons are for smoking. Scoring would be as follows: Always true:5 points, Frequently true:4 points, Occasionally true: 3 points, Seldom true:2 points, Never true: 1 point. It is considered a high score if you get 11 or more in any category and 7 is considered low, while any score in between is average.
Stimulation: This is due to the physiological effect of nicotine. a. "Smoking keeps me going and stops me from slowing down." b. "Smoking perks me up." c. "Cigarettes give me a lift."
Handling: For some people the ritual of smoking is an important element that adds pleasure to the act of smoking. a. "Handling a cigarette is enjoyable." b. "I enjoy the lighting-up routine." c. "I like watching the smoke."
Relaxation: Smoking can provide both calming and stimulating effects. These effects are probably due to the rate and depth of inhalation although this assumption is not yet proven. a "I find smoking pleasant and relaxing." b. "Smoking is pleasurable." c. "I want a cigarette when I am most comfortable and relaxed."
Tension reduction: Most people use smoking to relieve themselves from stressful situations. a. "I smoke when I'm angry." b. "I smoke when I am uncomfortable." c. "Cigarettes take my mind off my worries."
Craving: Nicotine can be real addictive. a. "I cannot bear to be without cigarettes." b. "I am consciously aware of the times that I am not smoking." c. "I get a gnawing hunger for a cigarette when I haven't smoked for a while."
Habit: smoking is habit forming and can become an almost mechanical response. a. "I smoke cigarette automatically without being aware of it." b. "I light up when I already have cigarette going." c. "I have smoked without remembering lighting up."
If you get high scores for most categories, it means that the reasons you have for smoking are intense and complex. You may have difficulty quitting but strong motivations and the will power to stop smoking will still give you positive results. There may be times that you will fall back but always stay motivated and you will get to your goal.

Easy Way To Quit Smoking: Does Such A Method Exist?

The question on every smoker’s yellowing lip will always be “Is there an easy way to quit smoking?” The instant answer to that would be yes, as there is a mountain of anecdotal evidence to suggest it is possible. There are millions of smokers who can testify that they packed in a long-term habit overnight, and never desired another cigarette again. The real question then, is how did they do it?
The answer is simple: if you wish to quit smoking easily, then you need to change your mindset. After years of smoking, your brain will be configured to believe that smoking is an integral part of you. As a former smoker myself, I know full well just how emotionally connected the smoker is to the cigarette, and this is something non-smokers often overlook. It’s not just a question of willpower - it’s about being able to sever the emotional links we have with the habit.
The fact is that nicotine is one of the least physically addictive drug substances out there. We can sleep for eight hours every night without our body waking us up in a cold sweat to smoke. Although this sounds like a big claim to make, the amount of anecdotal evidence mentioned earlier should be testament to this. The smoking habit is not the nicotine habit - it is the psychologically addictive habit.
The easy way to quit smoking is to shake up the beliefs you associate with smoking. It’s not enough to simply say it’s bad for your health, because that is a rational fact. Smoking breeds irrational, emotional attachments, and it is those attachments which you have to perceive in a different way. No smoker is going to argue that smoking is good for their health, but many will claim that a cigarette helps them relax. Do you see the difference? Smokers have more irrational beliefs than they would think.
This calls upon a great deal of introspection. Head to the pub with a notepad and pen and start writing about how you feel about smoking. Compare smoking to a girlfriend or boyfriend, if you will, because that’s the level of emotional attachment most smokers will feel towards the habit. Start assessing how you feel about smoking and make a list of all the positives you feel smoking brings to your life. Then try to detach yourself and question these “positives”.
Ultimately, if you want an easy way to stop smoking, then you need to realise that all that is really required is the re-wiring of your brain. You do not need gum, patches or any other gimmick. Such gimmicks only maintain your emotional attachment to the habit without the actual physical side-effect, but that is not enough. You need to beat both the physical attachment and, particularly, the emotional attachment. If I can do it, then so can you.

Ways to Quit Smoking
One of the newest quit smoking aids accessible is the quit smoking help laser treatment. Laser quit smoking help care involves placing a beam of light to a selection of energy points in the body. The laser induces the discharge of endorphins in the body, and these chemicals lend a hand to reduce the patient's nicotine cravings. The treatment is comparatively cheap when it comes to laser treatments, but it does cost a bit more than alternate stop smoking methods. The treatments typically cost about one hundred dollars a meeting. Nevertheless, some patients find laser treatments effective after just one or two sessions.

All personal breakthroughs begin with a change in beliefs. Anthony Robbins
One alternate favoured means of quit smoking help is hypnosis. Hypnosis is a proven method of reducing cigarette cravings. It is at least as effective as other stop smoking aids such as the patch or nicotine gum. However, ten to twenty-five percent of all individuals are not capable to be hypnotized, so this method may not be applicable to you. During a hypnosis session, the therapeutist puts the patient into a dreamlike state and advises him or her not to smoke. The therapist may repeat certain phrases discussing the unhealthy nature of smoking, and he or she may give certain cues that help the patient evade or deal with his or her cravings.
An obstacle is something you see when you take your eye off the goal.

7 Tips To Help You Quit Smoking For Good

Quitting smoking is not a easy thing to do. In fact, it can be very difficult. The psychological and physical addiction to nicotine makes it very difficult to just quit. But this can be done, and it was dome by millions of people who regained their health as a result.
There are no easy solutions to quitting the smoking habit. The withdrawal symptoms as well as the psychological need will be there and make it hard for you to quit. But there are quite a few ways to make it easier to go through those first few weeks of being smoke free. If you make if past the first month, your chances of quitting for good are much higher.
Let's take a look at a few of the most valuable tips we can offer:
Go cold turkey - Don't reduce the amount of cigarettes you smoke each day. Just stop totally. This seems counter-intuitive, but it's much better to quit all at once that to reduce the amount. Reducing the amount of cigarettes will not help you quit, it will only make it harder, and claim a heavier price from your health.
Replace your smoking with another habit - this is a useful way of coping with the habit itself. You can replace smoking with eating carrots, for example. Another way is to replace it with physical activity, or drinking water. The important thing is to create new and useful habits instead of the smoking habit.
Quit with a friend - If you have a friend that wants to quit smoking, you can quit together. This will force you to watch each other's backs, and make sure none of you gets back to smoking. Work out a support system that includes meetings once a day, phone calls etc. so that you keep supporting and encouraging each other.
Use nicotine replacement - There are plenty of products out there that make quitting smoking much easier, as they replace the nicotine fix smokers are used to getting. Taking a nicotine chewing gum, pills or patches makes it easier to deal with the withdrawal symptoms. When the physical side of the quitting process is handled, it's easier to cope with the psychological side of the addiction.
Use breathing exercises - Learning to breath correctly and to the full capacity of the lungs makes it easier to cope with the withdrawal symptoms and the dizziness and nausea you might feel. Yoga breathing techniques will do fine for that purpose and you can learn that from every book that deals with the subject.
Quitting smoking is not easy, but the price you might pay with your health is a lot more difficult to handle. Start planning your smoking quitting today, and set a date to do it. In 10 years time, you will greet yourself for doing so.

Stop Smoking With Hypnotherapy

As an ex smoker, I can completely relate to the challenges involved in giving up smoking and to the feelings of guilt, frustration and embarrassment of being a smoker, when you would really rather not be. It’s just not socially acceptable now days and as a women, the fear of developing the classic smokers face, puckered lines, grey complexion and dark circles was enough to enable me to find my motivation!
Fortunately, if you haven’t yet found the support you need to stop smoking forever, hypnotherapy can be an effective solution. Hypnotherapy Herts is a practice based in Hertfordshire. In this article you can discover 5 of the ways in which Hypnotherapy Herts can help you stop smoking with ease and quickly.
1. A Free Consultation – Hypnotherapy Herts provides a free consultation to those who make the decision to use Hypnotherapy Hertfordshire to stop smoking. During this initial consultation motivation is assessed. This is a very important step in your commitment to stop smoking. A good therapist will not work with a person who is not really that motivated to make the change. If they do, they are wasting your time and money. Hypnotherapy Herts would help you to identify whether you feel things ‘must change now’.
2. Informal Change Techniques: Leverage At Hypnotherapy Herts, a range of techniques are used to move ensure that you will be completely ready to stop smoking for good. One of the ways that this is done is via a process called getting leverage. This basically means helping the client to recognise and experience the impact of the problem behaviour, such as smoking, on themselves and those around them. It involves bombarding you with information about the impact of your smoking behaviour on your body and mind and the dangers of smoking will feel very real to you after this process. It will help you find your motivation and will identify those who are not motivated.
3. Informal Change Techniques: Setting Well-Formed Goals NLP takes goals setting seriously and has developed criteria for goal setting that results in the goals being achievable and likely to be reached. Setting these types of goals involves you acting as if you have already achieved your goals to give up smoking. You will get to really visualise and begin to experience in your mind your life as a person who does not smoke. You will want to move towards this life after this process.
4. Formal Change Techniques – There are several formal change techniques, which are effective for helping you to stop smoking. The most appropriate technique will depend on your unique problem. Here are a few: 1) The Swish Technique can be used if you wish to replace a highly contextualised problem behaviour with a more positive behaviour. It works to eliminate behaviours that occur in specific situations after specific triggers. 2) Parts Integration is very useful at uncovering the positive intention of your smoking habit and dealing with incongruent behaviour and feelings. 3) Like To Dislike – This technique is based on information about how we code memories in our brain. We tend to code things we like in a different way to things we don’t like. So, its possible to recode your memory of smoking into something that you cant stand.
5) Hypnosis with positive suggestion. Of course, part of your stopping smoking treatment at Hypnotherapy Herts will involve you getting to sit back and relax whilst your unconscious mind does the learning! During this process you will be guided to a deep state of relaxation, whilst the therapist also directs your unconscious mind with suggestions and metaphors to stop smoking. You will also be supported to develop positive coping strategies. Acknowledge that your smoking habit has served a purpose in the past, in that it has likely been a method for coping. Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques (neuro linguistic programming) will enable you to develop positive coping strategies that serve you in the present and future.
Hypnotherapy Herts helps people to stop smoking in one session. In that one session you become a non-smoker and do not want to go back to being one. Free support is also offered for the following 6 months, so that you return for free support if you feel you need it. If you do return to smoking a free top of session is available. These are rarely required.

How to Quit Smoking...Without Gaining Weight

Not everyone gains weight when they stop smoking, but the average weight gain is about 10 pounds. Weight gain is more likely when someone has smoked for 10 to 20 years or smokes a pack or more a day. Water retention may cause a deceptive weight gain of up to 5 pounds in the week after quitting smoking, but this is not a real weight gain, and your body will go back to normal.
Even if you do gain weight when you quit smoking, the health risks of smoking are far greater…you would have to gain over 150 pounds to make your health risks as high as when you smoked.
The most important components of preventing weight gain when you quit smoking are:1. Physical activity
To prevent weight gain at this time, you need to become more physically active. Beginning to increase your physical activity before you quit smoking may remind you how much smoking slows you down, when you have trouble breathing or start to cough during exercise.
Becoming physically active will not only help you control your weight, but will also give you more energy, improve your health, take your mind off smoking, and help relieve the stress and moodiness that may occur as a result of withdrawal from nicotine.
Try to do at least 30 minutes of physical activities on most days, even if it is in a few shorter increments. Physical activity does not have to be planned exercise; it may include taking the stairs, mowing the lawn, or playing with children.
2. Healthy eating
Improving your eating habits gradually can help prevent weight gain, as well as help you feel better as you quit smoking. But changing too much too quickly can increase the stress you feel as you try to quit smoking. Eating a variety of foods each day is a good start, and eating regularly so you never get too hungry.
To prevent extra snacking as a result of quitting smoking, do not try to quit smoking during a stressful period. This can cause extra stress that can lead to extra snacking, especially over the holidays when more food is around, or relapsing back into smoking to cope with the stress.
3. Managing cravings
Once you stop smoking, it is important to learn how to reduce your cravings for both cigarettes and food. A craving only lasts about 5 minutes. If you can distract yourself for 5 minutes, the craving will usually pass.
Replace smoking with other activities that occupy your hands and your mouth. Snack on fruit or chewing gum to satisfy any sweet cravings. Keep your hands busy with doodling, crossword puzzles, knitting, or twirling a straw, pen, or pencil.
Drink less caffeine; although you may think it will make you feel better, caffeine can worsen the jittery nervous feeling that may accompany nicotine withdrawal.
Get enough sleep; when you are tired, you are more likely to crave cigarettes and food.
Remember H.A.L.T.– never let yourself get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired.
Reduce tension by meditating, taking a walk or a bath, or taking deep breaths. Find something that will replace smoking as a way to relax and do it consistently.
Get support and encouragement; talk to a friend when you get the urge to smoke; talk about something other than smoking.
Make a list of when and where you are most tempted to smoke, and list healthy activities you can substitute when you have the urge. Try not to do things that tempt you to smoke, such as drinking or socializing in a bar, or tempt you to eat when you’re not hungry, such as bringing a bag of chips in front of the television.
If you are struggling or anxious about trying to quit smoking, talk to your doctor about nicotine replacement such as nicotine gum or a nicotine patch. These can help prevent a relapse, and nicotine gum has been shown to reduce weight gain.
4. Positive attitude
As you focus on quitting smoking and healing your body, your exercise and eating goals will become easier. When you quit smoking, you can breathe and get around more easily, and nutritious foods such as fruits and vegetables taste better when you are not smoking.
Try to stay positive, and try not to panic about modest weight gain; if you do gain weight, your healthy habits will help you lose the weight once your body gets back to normal. If you need more guidance, talk to your doctor or dietitian.
Be confident that you are making a healthy choice! Your whole body will thank you!

Stop Smoking Patch - What Are The Different Options Available For Nicotine Patches?

A stop smoking patch looks like an extra-large sticking plaster that is stuck on the skin while releasing nicotine that is absorbed slowly through the skin, reducing the physical craving for cigarettes within the body. While helping people to get through the withdrawal period relatively easily the patch will help the body reduce and sometime avoids feelings of restlessness, irritability, anxiety, headaches, dizziness, constipation, insomnia and tiredness.
Also, the nicotine patch has another advantage - it does not contain the other harmful chemicals present in cigarettes. A nicotine patch should be applied to a clean area between the neck and the waist that is free of hair. It usually doubles the rate of success for people who are motivated to give up smoking, as compared to those who rely only on their willpower and the advice of a doctor.
Nicotine patches are not for everyone who smokes, and pregnant women need to be careful about using the Nicoderm nicotine patches, since nicotine may slow down the growth of the baby. Those with high blood pressure and heart problems also need to be cautious about using nicotine patches. Similarly, people with diabetes, stomach ulcers, severe liver or kidney problems, or an over active thyroid gland need to consult their doctor before using a nicotine patch.
There are different types of patches, releasing doses of nicotine initially, then tapering off with different patches lowering the nicotine doses. Some patches release nicotine for 16 hours, while others release it for 24 hours. This allows the smoker to regulate the nicotine intake by taking the series of patches.
However, it is yet to be established as to what is more beneficial, gradual reduction in the dose of nicotine by using the patch or another aid, or its sudden stoppage through quicker reduction methods. Similarly, it is difficult to say whether 24-hour patches are more effective than 16-hour patches.
Two forms of patches that are popular are the traditional Nicoderm patches, and the new Zero Nicotine patches which are made from natural herbs. Using all-natural healing properties of traditional herbal formulas, it completely and naturally eliminates the body's craving for nicotine without putting nicotine back into the system, the way Nicoderm does.

How Herbal Quit Smoking Remedies Work

Cigarettes contain hundreds of dangerous toxic chemicals besides nicotine. Every time you puff on a cigarette, you are introducing nicotine, a drug, as well as all these other chemicals and carcinogens (some that can kill insects on contact) into your body.
You probably already know that cigarettes are bad for your health, increasing your rate of various cancer-related illnesses (mouth, lung, heart), heart disease, risk of stroke, but did you know that cigarette smoking is one of the leading causes of death worldwide? According to the Center for Disease Control, 1 in 5 deaths is related to cigarette smoking, that's 440,000 people per year in the U.S.A alone.
Why then do so many people still smoke?
Nicotine is the substance that's responsible for tricking your brain into creating a relaxed pleasurable feeling when you smoke. It does this by releasing a chemical called dopamine, which creates a fake feeling of well being and trains the body into wanting more and more of this feeling.
Whereas most smoking patches and gums only reduce the amount of nicotine given to your body, herbal stop smoking formulas mimic the effects of nicotine. This means your brain’s "nicotine receptors" will think they are getting a regular dose of nicotine, but in fact you will only be reducing your cravings and need for nicotine. You will experience no withdrawl symptoms. Instead, you will feel calm and relaxed as your nicotine addiction slowly fades away forever.
Herbal quit smoking products like the patch are considered to be a safe, convenient and effective way to eliminate cravings without using nicotine to break the habit. Some powerful herbs used in higher quality quit smoking products Passion Flower, Echinacea, Slippery Elm, Gotu Kola, Peppermint, Wild Oat, Skullcap, Myrrh, and others.

Quit Smoking Methods – An Alternative Perspective

‘A cigarette is a pipe with a fire at one end and a fool at the other’ said Dr. Johnson in his sarcastic comment on cigarettes and smoking.
Smoking is in fact a pernicious craving for tobacco products, especially cigarettes and cigars.
An organic compound, nicotine, which is richly found in tobacco smoke, is very detrimental to your health. It is linked with various health risks. It can cause diseases of the cardiovascular system, myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, diseases of the respiratory tract such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) chronic bronchitis and emphysema, cancer (particularly lung cancer and cancers of the larynx and tongue), peripheral vascular disease, birth defects of pregnant smokers' offspring, Buerger's disease (thromboangiitis obliterans), impotence, and in some cases it may develop cataracts that may cause blindness.
The statement ‘One thousand Americans stop smoking every day - by dying’ ironically expresses the risks of smoking.
“Sooner or later, everyone stops smoking.” Major health risks can be minimized by cessation smoking. Smoking cessation means to quit smoking, but the cardinal point is how to quit smoking.
Smoking can be quitted by using nicotine-containing tobacco substitutes. Nicotine replacement therapy has been quite an effective treatment. It uses various other nicotine delivery methods to replace nicotine obtained from smoking or other tobacco usage. The nicotine patch, inhaler, nasal spray, gum, gel, and lozenge are some effective tools of NTR. Nicotine gum is a chewing gum, which delivers nicotine to the body.
Nicotine patches are also used to quit smoking. Nicotine patches are transdermal patches that release nicotine into the skin. The patch therapy has been considerably successful in helping many people quit.
Hypnosis Stop-Smoking programs are another alternative that can help people who seriously want to quit.
Quit smoking help with hypnosis involves consultations and sittings with a hypnotherapist, who generally squeezes out the reasons for one’s smoking and the reasons for wanting to quit. Various hypnotherapy techniques, positive affirmations, and suggestions, are used to help the patient undertake a change of mindset and therefore quit smoking. Tools like stop smoking tapes or CDs are provided to the patient. Quit smoking hypnosis therapy is also proving to be a great quit smoking support.
The best way to quit smoking is to develop a strong will power to want to quit smoking. People who have weak will power cannot quit smoking. Weak will power can make even the effective therapies useless.
James I of England expressed his hate for smoking while he quoth, “A custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and in the black, stinking fume thereof nearest resembling the horrible Stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless.”
Smoking is not only injurious to health but rather to society also. It should be eradicated as early as possible.

Quit Smoking Right Now

I can still remember that hot summer day in June of 1971; I was 5 years old, and purchasing my first pack of cigarettes for my father. Each day, straight up noon, my dad would come pulling up in his Ford Torino, and that was my cue, I’d run the two blocks to McCartey’s Market, a small neighborhood grocery store on the corner of 13th and Tindall Ave in Trenton, Missouri, and pick up a pack of Sir Walter Raleigh cigarettes.
On this particular June lunch hour, that I believe to have been my very first cigarette purchasing adventure, I leaned over the only checkout counter in the store and timidly said, “I need a pack of Sir Walter Raleigh’s please”, and the lady’s reply still haunts me some 36 years later. “Oh how cute, honey are you gonna smoke these, or are they for your Daddy?”She asked. “They’re my Daddy’s” I chirped back. “Well I’ll bet when you get a little older, you’ll smoke the same kind, won’t you?”
While I truly don’t remember my reply to her statement, her words are forever burned into my mind. Fortunately, being the hard headed person I am, I was polarized to someone telling me what I was going to do someday, and I’ve never smoked. But my how things have changed. It was not an uncommon experience to see kids buying cigarettes back then.
But that’s not the point of my story; the real purpose of my story is to point out how many people’s lives have been destroyed by this legal poison that’s still sold today.
As a professional speaker, I travel all over the country, speaking to men and women who command big fat salaries and live pretty high on the hog, and guess what? Nicotine could care less about how much you money you make, it crosses all socio-economic lines, negatively impacting the lives of all who fall prey to her seductive relaxation techniques.
A good friend of mine, and well-known Internet entrepreneur, Rick Beneteau, has unleashed something that he believes will change the world and the lives of millions…it certainly changed his.
You see, Rick smoked for almost 40 years, and was suffering physically. After having has several failed attempts at quitting, Rick made an appointment with a clinic that claimed to have a 90% success rate with getting smokers to quit.
Here’s the kicker; the clinic told Rick that not only would he quit, but he would quit forever! And he’s do it without having cravings; without stress; and without patches, pills, and gums.
And that’s exactly what happened. Rick didn’t have any strong cravings, used no pills or patches, and suffered no major anxiety…..and he didn’t gain any weight, not even a pound.
Here are some facts about smoking that you may or may not have seen before, but they’re staggering, and worth seeing again. Those who decide to quit smoking have a financial burden, but worse yet, none of the following methods have shown very promising results:
A Nicotrol Inhaler will cost you approx. $509.88.
3 months of chewing Nicorettes will cost you approx. $337.50.
7 weeks of swallowing Zyban pills will cost you anywhere from $160.08 to $300.00+ depending on where you purchase. 3 months of "withdrawal munchies" (with other programs) will add at least $700.00 to your grocery bill
But what if you could quit smoking? Are the benefits really that great if you’ve been smoking most of your life? After 1 year off cigarettes, the excess risk of heart disease and sudden death caused by smoking is reduced by half. After 15 years of abstinence, the risk of heart disease is similar to that of people who've never smoked. In 5 to 15 years, the risk of stroke for ex-smokers returns to the level of those who've never smoked. Male smokers who quit between ages 35 to 39 can add up to 15 years to their life. Female quitters in this age group can add up to 12 years. Men and women who quit at ages 65 to 69 increase their life expectancy by up to 3 years.
Oh, I almost forgot, have you ever had an X-Ray? If so, then you’ve probably noticed the X-ray techs wearing those lead lined aprons to protect themselves, right? Do you know why that is?
X-Rays are dangerous…being exposed to the rays that are emitted through your body can actually damage you, and …each pack of cigarettes has been estimated by researchers to be the equivalent of one chest X-Ray!
I’ve known Rick for a long time now, and I know that if he says it's good…then you better believe that it is. He is as stoked about this as anything I’ve ever heard him ranting about.
Look, it’s bad enough we once had an era where a 5 year old could buy cigarettes for their Daddy, and be encouraged to smoke the same kind someday. But now, those 5 year olds are in their 40’s, and watching loved ones, friends, and family members dying around them. Whenever, however, and for whatever reasons, I hope that if you have been a smoker, you’ll find a way to quit. You might even choose to do it like Rick did.

Most quit smoking books, maybe all of them won’t tell you what I’m about to tell you next. Fasting is one of the best methods to quit smoking, if not the best. It will give you what you need to quit smoking. A lot of us feel we can’t quit smoking but we can. We fast so God will give us what we need to finally quit for good.
You should fast for three days to quit smoking. Fast on brown rice and water or carrot juice three days in a row. If you can’t fast for three straight days fast one day a week for three weeks or as close together as possible. This method can be used cold turkey or with the method discussed in the last chapter of my book; although I recommend cold turkey with this method. This method will work for you, all you have to do is try.
There are other ways to quit smoking. For instance you could pray or meditate until the desire passes. The desire to smoke will pass.
Another tip I share to readers in my book Quit Smoking the Easy Way: A New and Revolutionary Way to Quit Smoking is to chew cinnamon gum. There is something about cinnamon that fights cravings for nicotine. We’ve all heard about the healing power of Aroma therapy. Well now you know cinnamon can be used to fight cravings!
I think one of the most important ways to prepare yourself for quitting smoking is the ritual of forgiveness. Smokers smoke when they are mad. This tends to bring the anger to the subconscious. Here’s an excerpt from my book on the chapter entitled The Ritual of Forgiveness: “This ritual frees your heart. First think about everyone who has ever wronged you. Make a list in your mind. Ask God or a saint in heaven to help you forgive each person and why you need to forgive them. Perform this ritual nightly until you have forgiven each individual.
You will find that your heart will become unburdened and you will forgive more easily. You will find that you are not only better off not smoking but that you are better off not holding resentment in your heart. Getting rid of any anger will help you to be a calmer person who is ready to quit smoking.”

Top 5 Ways To Quit Smoking

For years, the only way to stop smoking was to quit cold turkey and hope that willpower alone was enough to make the habit a thing of the past. Americans still promote this theory of quitting with events like the “Great American Smoke Out” which encourages smokers to stop for one day every November. Promoters of the event say that once a person realizes that they can make it through an entire day without a cigarette the concept of quitting smoking becomes easier to accept. Having done it for a day, they believe they can do it and some do, organizers say. But the reality is that today there are many alternatives for people who are seriously attempting to quit smoking.
One of the new methods of treatment for those attempting to quit smoking is nicotine gum. This process of quitting involves substituting a nicotine gum for cigarettes whenever the craving hits. The theory is that this allows smokers to deal with the physical withdrawal from the addictive nicotine and the oral stimulation once associated with smoking. The idea is that they can begin to wean themselves off the gum slowly as the cravings become less prevalent.
A similar theory is the driving one behind the nicotine patch. Unlike the gum which requires the smoker to actively recognize their craving and treat it with a piece of gum, the nicotine patch as a method of quitting delivers a regular stream of nicotine into the smoker’s system to help alleviate the cravings. People who use this system to quit smoking gradually reduce the strength of the nicotine patch until the cravings are gone and the physical addiction has subsided. An added part of the patch treatment is that most people experience mild nausea if they attempt to smoke while wearing the patch, creating a form of aversion therapy.
A third treatment gaining in popularity is hypnosis to quit smoking. Smokers pay for a two or three hour session, often a group session, with a hypnotherapist who implants a suggest in their minds creating an aversion to smoking. This treatment option deals with the mental addiction to the habit, but does nothing to combat the physiological aspects of cigarette addiction.
Drug therapy is also being used successfully to help some people quit smoking. Some anti-depressants have shown great success in combating smoking as have drugs designed to interact with the chemicals in cigarettes and make them less pleasing to smokers. The drug therapy usually is used in conjunction with another quitting method, nicotine gum or the patch, in an effort to deal with the physiological addiction as well.
Finally, also gaining prominence recently in the effort to get people to quit smoking is acupuncture and accupressure. Research indicates that trained therapists can use pressure points to release the addiction from the system and help former smokers get over their cravings for cigarettes. Unlike hypnotherapy which deals with the psychological addiction and not the physiological, this treatment is effective with people who want to quit smoking but not those who are unwilling to commit to stopping. The acupuncture treatment treats the physiological addiction, but does not address the psychological addiction.
